Brief - Character Design - 29/9/09 - 1/10/09

This week we have been working with a disney designer on how to create characters

Firstly we started by learning about how build bodies of different shapes and how each shapes reflect on the personality of the character - a triangle is evil , circle is comedy and square is strong . You can also mix combinations of shapes to create more in depth personalities.

Then we applied the knowledge about shapes making different personalities and applied it to disney characters to see how changing their shapes changed the characters personality.

Then he asked us to create characters using our knowledge about shapes and a sheet full of animal features to attach to them.

After we had created 4 characters he asked us to pick one and put in to an animal form based on its features and I think when I turned my character to an animals pose it worked better than as in the shape of a human as it had better proportions based on its features.

On the last day he got us to take everyday objects and find characters in them and apply a personality / mood using a sheet with facial expressions for ideas.

Then lastly he got people from the class to pose and we had to draw there position all in proportion. Even had a cosy session with keith laying on me lol - very unexpected.
